The Claim Type field indicates what category a claim falls under without giving any further information regarding the event that lead to the claim or the damage that was caused. This information is instead captured by the Incident Type, Sub-Incident Type and Damage Type fields, which, together with the claim type, provide a structured categorisation of the situation surrounding a claim.

Incident Types

The incident type lets you categorise your claims by the type of event that led to the claim. It can also be thought of as the "cause of damage".

When creating a new claim, a set of incident types is available to choose from depending on the claim type. You have the option using our default list or customising these according to your business needs.

By assigning claims to an incident type, the initial cause of the claim gets clearly stated, allowing you to direct your workflow and run filters accordingly.

Sub-Incident Types

Based on the chosen incident type, a set of sub-incident types are available to choose from to add further detail about the incident, for scenarios where the incident type itself is not sufficient. These are also customisable if desired.

Sub-incident types give further insight to the specific incident leading to the damage.

Damage Types

A given claim can have multiple damages recorded against it. Each of these damages has a Damage Type field, which represents the actual damage caused by the incident. Based on the claim type, either a custom, or default, list of damage types is available to choose from.
